Blurb for Wells and Wanderers – Amorites

Sometimes freedom and family are found in unexpected places.

Inanna, an Amorite chieftain’s daughter, craves to be free as the eagles that fly above her hometown.
Utu, her loyal twin, just wants to keep his wayward sister out of trouble.
Neither succeeds, and their dreams are uprooted as they’re sold into slavery. During their forced travels, they encounter nations they’d only known from stories, palaces beyond description, and fickle kings claiming to be all-powerful deities.
Yet when serving the wandering household of Avram and Sarai from Ur, they encounter a mystery god intent on upturning national boundaries, calling new loyalties, and directing the eyes of his followers to dreams vaster than the star-filled sky.
But what has this god of unexpected paths and promises to offer two Amorite slaves?

Why write in a new genre?

In a lot of ways this new genre is more natural to me. Since 2004, I have been an oral Bible storyteller. As told elsewhere, I never intended writing fiction. It was during a half-day of prayer that the idea for my first novel dropped into my head. I didn’t think I could ever write a novel but over a six-year period, God pushed me to write fiction and led me to the resources to learn how. The final push was reading Francine Rivers’ Sons of Encouragement which is Biblical fiction. As I read, it was clear that this was how I should practice writing. I was a Bible storyteller, I’d practice by writing Biblical fiction. I wrote two practice novels before starting the contemporary book that became Grace in Strange Disguise. That one book led to a six-book series.

In the midst of writing the previous series, I began to think that one day I might go back to Biblical-era fiction. I was keen to do Old Testament stories (I love the OT and people are less familiar with it) and on the theme of God reaching out to the nations.

2022 was supposed to be a rest from writing novels. However, I ended up mentoring students at a theological college and there were several class-free weeks. “I’ll just do the research,” I promised myself but somehow two books were written.

The Biblical research is my favourite part of the process. I found the books easier to write because they are more spiritually upbuilding compared with writing contemporary stories. So expect more historical fiction from me. At the moment, I’m planning a nine-book series.

Each book will focus on one people group from the peoples within Canaan and surrounding Israel. The first three will be Amorites, Egyptians, Gibeonites.

Where can you buy Wells and Wanderers?

My first choice would be that you buy it directly from my online PayHip store. This store uses PayPal or Stripe (Visa or Mastercard) to process your payments and there is a general SAVE10% coupon you can apply at checkout. You can also leave reviews directly on my store. I’d love it if you copied reviews you’ve written elsewhere and pasted them on my site. Scroll down to the bottom of the purchase page and click on the green ‘write a review’ button.

Of course, you can buy it directly from other distributors.

PRINT – is already available through Amazon. For Australians, you can buy books directly from me (contact me via this website), or the Wandering Bookseller (Australia), or Koorong (Australia).

  1. I read “Grace in the Shadows” in one day. It was so interesting with many teachable moments. I know how important it is to read and know your Bible so as not to be deceived.

    1. And it is so easy to be deceived. When I studied physiotherapy we spent a lot of time studying ‘normal’ movement (standing up, walking, …) and we always wanted to study the more interesting ‘abnormal’ but the lecturers always said, “Unless you know normal, you won’t know what is abnormal’. Our Bible functions like that.
Keep reading – there are 4 more in the Grace series and then a new series after that.
